Why Do Some Listings Say Promoted?

What the Promoted label means, and what they don’t change about your results.

1

What the labels mean

A listing labelled “Promoted” is one whose seller chose to pay for it to appear in more places. Boost is optional for sellers, so most listings you see are not boosted at all.

2

Where they appear

Promoted listings appear in fixed positions in browse and search — up to one in every four slots — and a Promoted listing takes the first position in the homepage Trending row. The same label also appears on a boosted listing wherever it shows up in the ordinary results.

3

They still match what you asked for

A listing in one of those paid positions always matches the filters and search terms you set. Paying cannot put a listing in front of you if it does not match what you asked for, and it cannot push an item outside your chosen distance into your results.

4

Your organic results are unchanged

Paying does not reorder the ordinary results. Promoted listings in those positions are added to the page in their own slots — the listings you would have seen anyway are still there, in the same order.

5

Always labelled

Every paid placement carries a visible label. If a listing is not labelled, nobody paid for where it is.

You're all set!
