How to Sell a Local Market Item
List a physical good — new, used, vintage, or handmade — and start selling.
Go to Create Listing
Sign in and go to My Account → Create Listing. Select "Market (Items)" as your listing type.
Choose your category and condition
Pick the parent category (e.g. Clothing, Electronics) and subcategory. Select the item condition: New, Used, Refurbished, or Handmade.
Write a great title and description
Be specific in your title — "Handmade ceramic mug, 12oz, blue glaze" sells better than just "Mug". Describe dimensions, condition, any defects, and why someone would want it.
Selling from Canada: W-8BEN, DDP shipping, and GST/HST
If your payout country is Canada, three things apply. Tax form: you are a non-US seller, so Stripe collects a W-8BEN from you during its onboarding — Stonefjord never asks you for it separately and does not hold a copy. Shipping goods: a parcel that crosses any border is dutiable somewhere, so whenever your buyer is in a different country from you, physical goods must ship on a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) service — DHL Express DDP offers one. We have not been able to confirm whether Canada Post covers DDP to the United States, so confirm with your carrier before you list, and treat this as a starting point rather than a recommendation. Stonefjord doesn't calculate or collect duty: your carrier does, and bills you — so build the expected duty into your asking price, or you will absorb it. GST/HST number, optional: if you are registered for GST/HST you can add your number — nine digits, then RT and four digits, like 123456789RT0001 — under My Account → Payouts. It is optional, it changes none of your fees, and it only affects how the tax on what Stonefjord charges you is accounted for.
Set your price
Enter your asking price. Think about what you'd actually accept — buyers can message you to negotiate. Finishing payout setup gives you 25 free listings every month (unused ones don't carry over), and every sale earns you another free listing that never expires; once you have none left, a one-time $0.50 listing fee is charged when you publish. When the item sells, the seller fee comes out of your payout: a Platform fee (3%) plus a Stonefjord fee (7%), 10% in total, with a $0.60 per-order minimum. Set delivery options
Choose whether you offer local pickup, shipping, or both. If you ship, pick which flat-rate options to offer (Standard, Express, and more) and whether you ship internationally — buyers choose one at checkout, and shipping is added to the order total.
Add photos
Upload clear, well-lit photos of your item. The first photo is your cover image. You can add up to 5 photos. Listings with multiple photos get significantly more views.
Publish your listing
Review your listing and click "Create listing". Your item is live immediately and visible to all buyers on Stonefjord.
Manage your orders
When a buyer purchases your item, you'll receive an email notification. Go to My Account → My Sales to view the order, update its status, and message the buyer.
